FORTY YEARS OLD!
Our Parish will be forty years old in 2012. We were founded in February 1972 and our Church was dedicated in May 1972. Please God we will mark this special jubilee with the opening of our new Parish Centre. We can celebrate in other ways too! One particular way of honouring our forty years as a parish could be in a Jubilee Publication which would capture the memories and stories of our community from its beginnings.
Invitation:
This note is an invitation to all and sundry to submit stories, memories, anecdotes and photographs for this publication. They can reflect any aspect of the life of this parish, such as its faith and church, most or all its people (living and deceased), its landscape, landmarks and features - how our place looked when it was still a 'green field' area, the organisations, sporting, social, educational, spiritual, cultural - like the Scouts and the Credit Union, which have grown here, its schools, community buildings (like the Manor of St. John, the Millennium Building) its factories, especially Waterford Crystal etc, etc.
This is a great opportunity to record our story, our achievements and our struggles. It is a chance to build on the memories of our Silver Jubilee, and to leave a wealth of memories for the coming generations.
'A community without a story, is like a person without a memory.'
All contributions will be welcomed, long or short, sad or humorous, trivial or profound. Write them down in a paragraph or a page. If you do not wish to write, please tell us your recollections. Go through your old photos. Submissions can be given to any member of the Parish Team, the Parish Office or to members of the Parish Pastoral Council before the end of October.
